Dr. Samuel Hailu
Dr. Samuel Hailu is a well-known Orthopedic Surgeon and a hip/knee joint replacement trauma subspecialist at Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa. His knowledge and expertise in hip and joint replacement is truly unparalleled. Dr Hailu completed his fellowships after specializing in orthopaedics from the most prestigious institutions in New York, Canada, and Chicago.
After completing his fellowships, he returned to his homeland and brought various unprecedented changes in the orthopaedic domain, particularly in the treatment of pelvic fractures and hip replacement. These include a novel procedure to manage complex pelvic and acetabular fractures and minimally invasive surgery for hip replacement. Further, he introduced the technology of direct anterior hip replacement that made Ethiopians benefit from shorter recovery periods. These groundbreaking procedures for effective and accurate orthopaedic care led him to achieve the Humanitarian Scholar Award at the 37th Orthopaedic Trauma Association 2021 Annual Scientific Conference in Fort Worth.
Presently, Dr. Hailu is associated with Black Lion or Tinkur Anbessa Hospital, St. Gabriel General Hospital, Samaritan Surgical Center, and Addis Ababa University.
