Trans Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) Surgery in Lagos
A transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) or a transurethral resection (TUR) is a procedure that is commonly used to determine whether anyone has bladder cancer and, if so, if the cancer has spread into (invaded) the bladder wall’s muscle layer.
TURBT is also the most effective therapy for bladder cancers that are early-stage or superficial (non-muscle invasive). When most patients are initially diagnosed, they have superficial cancer, so this is normally the first therapy they get. A second, more comprehensive TURBT is often performed to ensure that any cancer has been eliminated. The aim is to remove the cancer cells and nearby tissues all the way down to the bladder wall’s muscle layer.
