Cervical Conization Surgery in Lagos
Excision of a cone-shaped or cylindrical wedge from the cervix uteri that involves the transformation region and any or a part of the endocervical canal is known as conization of the cervix. It’s used to make a conclusive diagnosis of squamous or glandular intraepithelial lesions, rule out microinvasive carcinomas, and treat cervical intraepithelial neoplasia conservatively (CIN).
Conization (cone biopsy) and LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) are procedures for cervical dysplasia that locate and remove abnormal tissue from the cervix.
Since it extracts a cone-shaped portion of irregular tissue for laboratory examination, conization is also known as a cone biopsy.
