Dimples on cheeks are considered ‘cute’ by many. Cheek dimples are usually considered as an attractive feature of facial beauty. However, not all are born with dimples. But due to the tremendous advancement in cosmetic surgery field, anybody can have their wish granted. There is an increasing demand for dimple creation.
Natural dimples are muscle defects in the cheek where skin is stuck to underlying tissue. While some dimples stay through adulthood, some fade away as a child grows up, and the defect disappears due to maturation of the cheek muscle. Dimple plasty is a minimally invasive surgery used to create dimples on the cheeks. It is done under local anesthesia as a day care procedure. Dimples are created by making a tiny incision inside a patient’s cheek. There are no cuts on the outside of the face. It is a safe and effective surgery with minimal complications.
A dimpleplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. This means you can get the procedure done at your surgeon’s office without having to go to the hospital. You may also not need to be put under general anesthesia.
First, your doctor will apply a topical anesthetic, such as lidocaine, to the area of skin. This helps to ensure you don’t experience any pain or discomfort during the surgery. It takes about 10 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect.
Your doctor then uses a small biopsy instrument to make a hole in your skin to manually create a dimple. A small amount of muscle and fat is removed to aid in this creation. The area is about 2 to 3 millimeters in length.
Once your doctor creates the space for the future dimple, they then position a suture (sling) from one side of the cheek muscle to the other. The sling is then tied to set the dimple permanently in place.
Does it hurt a lot after surgery?
Once the anaesthesia effect wears off one may feel slight discomfort. Severe pain is unlikely after the surgery. Patients will be prescribed pain medications to be taken as per their requirement (as every individual has different pain threshold).
Following surgery except mild discomfort and swelling there is no compelling thing needing rest. We rather would like you to be up and about (go back to your routine) that will help in reduction of swelling.
