Dr. Robert Ssentongo

Dr. Robert Ssentongo is an expert in cleft surgery, microsurgery, orthopedic surgery, post-burn reconstruction, hypospadias surgery, and head and neck surgery.

Robert Ssentongo is a consultant plastic surgeon in Uganda’s Ministry of Health and the deputy executive director of Kiruddu General Hospital in Makindye Division, south of Kampala, the country’s capital and largest city. On August 9, 2018, he was appointed to the job.

Ssentongo was born in Uganda’s Buganda region. For elementary education, he went to Bishop’s Primary School Mukono West. For his secondary education, he transferred to Bishop Senior School Mukono.

Dr. Robert is passionate about using therapeutic practice to provide hope and restore functional and aesthetic well-being.

With this as my guiding concept, I dedicated my career to providing hope and restoring functional and aesthetic well-being through clinical treatment.

I am a self-motivated and self-driven Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with extensive experience and a proven track record of great service delivery in the following areas:

Dr. Robert Ssentongo Education

He attended Makerere University Medical School and earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBChB). He went on to earn a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Surgery from the same medical school. Later, between 2001 and 2003, he spent two years at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Bangalore, India, completing a residency in plastic surgery.

Dr. Robert Ssentongo Experience

Dr. Ssentongo has worked as a plastic surgeon at Mulago National Referral Hospital for at least 15 years, since 2003, attaining to the position of Senior Consultant by 2015. He was the lead consultant plastic surgeon at the hospital’s burns unit at the time.

He has also worked with SmileTrain, an international non-profit organisation. As of August 2018, he also has privileges as the sole plastic surgeon on staff at Nakasero Hospital, a private hospital.

Dr. Robert Ssentongo was named deputy executive director of Kiruddu General Hospital by the Uganda Ministry of Health in August 2018. Dr. Charles Kabugo, a senior consultant physician, will be his deputy.
