Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre IVF laboratory has a distinctive atmosphere necessary for fertility treatment and development of innovative technology to improve clinical outcomes.

State-of-the-Art IVF/ICSI Equipment

Our fertility laboratory has state-of-the art equipment. The lab facility houses incubators, microscopes and micromanipulation stations for oocyte injection, embryo/blastocyst biopsy and assisted hatching. We have computer-controlled freezing and thawing facilities for eggs, sperm and embryos.

Multiple image analysis, videography and fluorescence microscopy stations throughout the laboratory areas aids us in the study of human oocytes, embryos and sperm.

Other equipment in the lab include a non-contact Octax laser for opening the embryonic zona, embryo biopsy and laser ablation of cells. Meiotic spindles in living oocytes are visualized non-invasively using polarized light and the Oocyte Imaging System. This amazing new tool has been instrumental in developing cryopreservation protocols for human eggs and assessing disturbances in meiotic spindle formation after warming.

Fertility Treatment for Women

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
IVF is a fertility procedure in which a woman’s eggs are stimulated to develop in multiples using hormone therapy and then the eggs are retrieved by a minor surgical procedure and exposed to a husband’s sperms for fertilization. The process of fertilizing the eggs occurs in the laboratory, or in vitro. The fertilized eggs or embryos can then be transferred to a woman’s uterus in order to implant for pregnancy. Unlike other fertility treatments, the process of IVF allows for control of the number of embryos to be transferred to the uterus and the possibility to test for other conditions that might be indicated by the medical history.

Fertilization with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
ICSI is one of the most effective methods of fertilizing eggs in recent times, especially when insufficient sperm is available, sperm parameters are compromised, or when previous fertilization methods have failed. Through ICSI, even the most severe cases of male infertility – very low numbers of sperm or even no sperm in the ejaculate – can be successfully treated with ICSI. In such severe cases, sperm could be obtained from the testes or epididymis by a minor outpatient procedure, unless the man (husband) does not have the genetic ability to make sperm.

Embryo Freezing
After the eggs are fertilized and the required number of embryos has been transferred, extra embryos can be frozen (“cryopreserved”) for future use by the couple. Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre, cryopreservation of embryos is carried out either on the third day after egg retrieval or on the fifth or sixth day after egg retrieval (the “blastocyst” stage). Embryos that have potential to become successful pregnancies in the future are cryopreserved.

Fertility Treatment for Men

Our male patients are not left out. We provide urology services in an atmosphere that is caring, private, and comfortable.

In addition to semen analysis, semen cryopreservation, and intrauterine inseminations, we perform in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures and sperm preparation for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in our laboratory. We also offer the convenience of safe, reliable sperm cryopreservation at a minimal cost.

Testicular and epididymal sperm can be cryopreserved for future use so there is new hope to men with severely impaired spermatogenesis, allowing them to potentially bank very small numbers of sperm for a future IVF cycle.
