It quickly became apparent that FOCOS needed a home of its own to keep up with the health needs of the population and to provide the highest quality of care.  Dr. Boachie-Adjei, realized a sustainable solution was needed and set out to deliver healthcare to underserved patients throughout the world.

In 2005, FOCOS purchased the Watson House and converted it to a medical clinic. The goal was to provide out-patient care including pre and post operative surgical evaluations.  FOCOS was able to obtain state-of-the-art equipment and began programs to train local medical professionals.  While the Watson House was a wonderful home for the FOCOS team, it was merely the foundation for a greater vision.

Thanks to the indispensable assistance of more than 5,000 donors from all over the world, Dr. Boachie-Adjei and his team raised over $20 million and in 2008 and set out to build a state-of-the art hospital facility dedicated to orthopedic care.

In 2012, the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital opened its doors in Accra, Ghana serving not only the local community, but patients from across the globe. The hospital features two operating theaters, a recovery room, a physiotherapy center, orthotics lab, radiology center, and more.

Our Vision

To develop sustainable infrastructure to enable state of the art orthopedic care, education, research and training.

Education, research, and training are pillars of the FOCOS mission and play significant roles in guaranteeing the sustainability of the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital. FOCOS has organized various in-services for its allied medical professionals including seminars on infection control, patient confidentiality, and work environment safety.  The hospital is also host to several local and international university exchange programs.  The goal is to offer incentives to Ghanaian and foreign medical specialists to train and remain in Ghana.

Our long term goal is to construct the FOCOS Institute — a world class facility to provide orthopedic education and practical experience for physicians, surgeons, medical students, and allied health professionals.  Due to very generous donors, the project will also include the expansion of the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital with a dedicated children’s ward and administrative annex.  The new construction will be located adjacent to the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital and will be a hub for orthopedic training in Africa.
