Arterial Switch Surgery in Lagos
The arterial switch procedure, also known as the Jatene switch procedure, is a surgical procedure that corrects D-transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA) at the aorta and main pulmonary artery stage. Because of the better results, it is usually favored over atrial transfer procedures for simple D-TGA.
The arterial transfer technique aims to redirect blood flow in order to mimic natural physiology as closely as possible. The left ventricular flow is redirected to the systemic circulation, while the right ventricular flow is redirected to the pulmonary arteries.
