Four Dimensional 4D Ultrasound in Lagos
Four-dimensional ultrasounds are an imaging procedure in which a video-like capture of the pregnant foetus replaces the traditional 3D ultrasound images. The same ultrasound waves are used in a 4D to create a ‘film’ of the foetus passing intrauterine. Although 4D ultrasound is not recommended for recreational use, it aids in the detection of apparent facial and developmental deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate that may otherwise go undetected in a 2D or 3D ultrasound.
