Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) Surgery in Lagos
The loop electrosurgical excision technique (LEEP) removes cells and tissue from a woman’s lower genital tract using a wire loop heated by electric current. It’s used to help doctors diagnose and cure rare or cancerous diseases.
The cervix and vagina are part of the lower genital tract. The vagina binds the cervix and the vulva, and the cervix is the lower, thin portion of the uterus.
A thin film of irregular tissue is sliced away with LEEP by passing an electric current through a fine wire coil. This tissue will be sent to a laboratory for analysis. LEEP also has the ability to kill unhealthy cells, allowing healthy tissue to mature.
