Nephrectomy in Lagos
The surgical removal of a kidney is known as nephrectomy. The technique is used to cure kidney cancer, as well as other illnesses and conditions affecting the kidneys. Nephrectomy is often used to extract a healthy kidney for transplantation from a live or dead donor.
For a diseased kidney, there are two forms of nephrectomy: incomplete and radical. Just the diseased or damaged area of the kidney is removed in partial nephrectomy. The whole kidney, as well as a part of the tube leading to the bladder (ureter), the gland that lies atop the kidney (adrenal gland), and the thick tissue around the kidney, is removed during a radical nephrectomy. The proclivity of both kidneys is increased when they are separated at the same time.
