St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College – Cancer Department
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Ethiopia has established an oncology department, indicating its capacity for cancer treatment. To develop into a medical university with a renowned academic and research centre and highly sought-after medical treatment, the hospital is currently the top public hospital and medical college in the area. The oncology department at St. Paul’s Hospital was launched in 2018. Before the establishment of the department, cancer treatment and control in Ethiopia received less attention, leading to challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Most cancer cases were presented at advanced stages, leading to unsatisfactory treatment outcomes. Dr. Abdu Adem, the Director of Quality Improvement and Clinical Oncology, is involved in the hospital’s oncology services.
However, with the initiation of cancer treatment centres in several public and teaching hospitals, including St. Paul’s Hospital, there have been opportunities for improved cancer care. The availability of well-developed diagnostic and treatment centres and well-trained oncology professionals has been crucial in addressing the challenges of cancer treatment in Ethiopia.
