St. Thomas Eye Hospital was established in 2010 and became the first hospital in Ghana to start advanced phacoemulsification cataract surgery as a routine procedure. In 2013, it again became the first hospital to start micro-incisional vitreoretinal surgical (MIVS) services, using the cutting edge Alcon Constellation Vision System. It is also one of a handful facilities where glaucoma by-pass procedures involving drainage device implants are performed.
