Dr. Abdu Adem: Medical Oncologist in Addis Ababa
Dr. Abdu Adem is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Oncology at St Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College. Besides being an oncologist, he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students from different departments. Dr. Adem grew up in Gedera in Wollo. He graduated as a doctor from the Hawassa University School of Medicine in 2011. Dr Abdu’s passion for studying medicine soon became evident as he steadily climbed to the heights of academic success. He achieved a golden medal and titles, such as the medical intern of the batch award of the Ethiopian Medical Association at Hawassa University.
Dr Abdu chose to specialize in clinical oncology at Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences and graduated with flying colours in 2017. Presently, he has deep experience in clinical, teaching, and administrative tasks. In 2018, he became a part of the team that created the curriculum for Ethiopian clinical oncologists and prepared job evaluations and grading for stratifying oncologists in Ethiopia.
Dr. Abdu has been on a mission to spread cancer awareness and care since the time he graduated. To this extent, he set up the Oncology Unit at SPHMMC to make cancer care more accessible. Besides, he has been able to reach billions of people through social platforms. His efforts highlight his commitment to improving the existing condition of cancer treatment in Ethiopia.
